RoHS certification introduction

The full name of the RoHS Directive is The Restriction of the use of Certain Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment. In 2002, the EU first proposed the RoHS concept - a directive to restrict the use of hazardous substances in electronic and electrical products (EEE).

Directive 2002/95/EC or RoHS: EU restricts the use of lead (Pb), mercury (Hg), cadmium (Cd), hexavalent chromium (Cr6+), polybrominated biphenyls (PBB) and polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE) on 21 July 2011 in the production process of certain electrical and electronic equipment sold in the EU. Directive 2011/65/EU or RoHS 2: EU restriction on lead (Pb), mercury (Hg), on January 2, 2013,

Cadmium (Cd), hexavalent chromium (Cr VI), polybrominated biphenyl (PBB), polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE), di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP), tolylbutyl phthalate (BBP), dibutyl phthalate (DBP), diisobutyl phthalate (DIBP) (referred to as phenyle 4P). Except for the EU, other countries and regions around the world, such as China, the United States ,

State, Singapore, India, the UAE, Türkiye and others have also successively issued RoHS control requirements, making RoHS the most basic entry threshold for electronic and electrical products to enter the global market.

Testing items and regulatory requirements

The content in each homogeneous material shall not exceed the following limits:
Lead: Limit 1000ppm
Mercury: Limit 1000ppm
Hexavalent chromium: Limit 1000ppm
Cadmium:
Limit 100ppm Polybrominated biphenyl (PBB): Limit 1000ppm
Polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE): Limit 1000ppm
Di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP): Limit 1000ppm
Dibutyl phthalate (DBP): Limit 1000ppm
Benzyl phthalate (BBP): Limit 1000ppm Diisobutyl phthalate (DIBP): Limit 1000ppm
Diisobutyl phthalate (DIBP): 1000ppm

Applicable product scope

The RoHS Directive covers a wide range of products, covering almost all electronic and electrical products and their raw materials, category 1 - large household appliances
Category 2 - Small household appliances
Category 3—IT and communication equipment
Category 4 - Consumer Equipment
Category 5 - Lighting Equipment
Category 6 - Electronic and Electrical Tools
Category 7 - Toys, Leisure and Sports Equipment
Category 8 - Medical Equipment
Category 9 - Monitoring Equipment including Industrial Monitoring and Control Instruments
Category 10 - Vending Machine
Category 11 - Other EEEs not included in the above categories

Application process

1. Apply for ROHS testing and submit an application form;
2. Our company provides a quotation form;
3. Pay payment according to the quotation agreement between the two parties;
4. Mail samples to our company;
5. Arrange testing matters;
6. Data comes out, pass/fail;
7. Mail report to the applicant and the test is over.

Application materials

1. Only conduct heavy metal testing: solids need to provide about 5-10g, liquids need to provide 5-10mL;
2. Only conduct bromine flame retardant testing: solids need to provide about 10-20g, liquids need to provide 10-20mL;
3. Perform heavy metal organic pollutant testing: provide about 20-30g sample;
4. Perform other organic pollutant testing: provide about 30g sample;
5. Only detect samples at the plating (coating) part, and indicate the approximate weight of the material part of the plating (coating) part; if the weight of the plating (coating) part does not meet the sample delivery requirements, the plating (coating) material must be provided.

How much does RoHS test cost?
RoHS testing is a very common chemical test and is relatively cheap. RoHS testing is charged based on the material. One material costs about 600 yuan, and most materials can be calculated by packaging prices.

How long is the validity period of the RoHS report?
RoHS certification does not require a validity period. If the test standards for RoHS certification are not officially revised, the original ROHS certificate can be valid for a long time.

How long does it take to do RoHS testing?
Common products apply for ROHS certification. On the premise that customers provide samples and information, the RoHS testing time for conventional products is about 5-7 days.

Does RoHS certification require factory review?
RoHS does not require factory inspection.
