Certification introduction
The Ministry of Knowledge Economy (MKE) announced on August 25, 2008 that the South Korean National Standards Committee will implement a new national unified logo, namely the "KC" logo, from July 2009 to December 2010. The "KC" logo means "Korea Certification". KC certification is the Korean electronic and electrical products safety certification system. It is a mandatory safety certification system implemented by the Korean Institute of Technology Standards (KATS) in accordance with the "ELECTRIC APPLIANCES SAFETY CONTROL ACT" on January 1, 2009.
To avoid repeated certification, EMC and Safety are separated from management from July 1, 2012. For electronic and electrical products that apply for Korean certification, they must obtain KC certificates and KCC certificates (new MSIPs) respectively for their safety (Safety) and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) requirements. There are 2 qualification certification institutions for KC certification: Korea Testing Certification (KTC, Korea Testing Certification), and Korea Industrial Technology Testing Institute (KTL, Korea Electrical Testing Institute). These two companies are not only KC's certification agencies, but also qualification testing laboratories.
In terms of safety standards, all products entering the Korean market need to comply with the Korean safety standard K standard (similar to the IEC standard). When using the IEC standard, the requirements of South Korea must be met. National differences can be found in the announcements in the IECEE CB system. In terms of EMC, the Korean EMI standard is similar to the CISPR standard, and the EMS standard is similar to the EN standard.
Certification system classification
(I)
In order to prevent safety accidents from consumers such as electric shock and fire, KC Safety has implemented a safety management system for electrical appliances. Only confirmed products are allowed to leave the factory and sell. The latest "Electrical Product Safety Management Law" requires that KC Safety certification is divided into three categories according to the product hazard level:
· Mandatory safety certification (Safety Certification)
· Self-regulatory Safety Confirmation
· Supplier Self-Confirmation (SDoC)

(II) Electromagnetic compatibility & RF radio frequency certification ( K C EMC and RF )
Ensure that the equipment should work normally in a certain electromagnetic environment, that is, the equipment should have a certain electromagnetic immunity (EMS); secondly, the electromagnetic harassment generated by the equipment itself cannot have an excessive impact on other electronic products, that is, electromagnetic harassment (EMI).
KC EMC and KC RF certifications include electromagnetic compatibility testing, wireless radio frequency and telecommunications testing. According to the latest "Radio Wave Law", the certification system is divided into three categories according to the product's level of hazardous radio environment:
· Certification of Conformity· Registration of Compatibility
· Interim of Conformity
(III) Energy efficiency level (MEPS)
Energy efficiency level identification is an information label that represents performance indicators such as product energy efficiency. The purpose is to provide the necessary information for users and consumers' purchasing decisions to guide and help consumers choose energy-efficient and energy-saving products.
Applicable product scope
The KC certified product range generally includes electrical products with AC above 50 volts to below 1000 volts. In addition to products that must obtain safety certification, self-discipline and safety confirmation must be applied.

Application process
2. The testing agency submits samples and materials to KTL/KTC for testing
3. KTL/KTC for safety tests, and issue a KC test report after the test is completed
4. (If any) For safety certification, KTL/KTC needs to arrange factory inspection, and conduct annual factory reviews every year
5. KTL/KTC audit report and other application documents. After no problems, KC certificate is issued.

The difference between KC certification and KCC certification in Korea
KCC is a mandatory certification conducted by the Korean market for IT information, telecommunications and RF wireless radio frequency products, including electromagnetic compatibility testing, telecommunications testing and wireless radio frequency testing. The Korea Broadcasting and Communications Commission authorizes the Korea Radio Research Institute (RRA) to be the KCC issuing agency. Starting from January 1, 2011, the original Korean KCC logo will be converted to KC. Therefore, the certification logo used by KCC certification and KC certification is the same. The difference is that the KCC ID number will be included below the KCC certification logo.
KC nameplate requirements
KC nameplate must include the following contents:
