According to relevant regulations issued by the Egyptian State Telecommunications Administration (NTRA), all communication equipment used in Egypt, including terminal equipment, radio communication equipment, etc. must obtain NTRA certification.
NTRA certified product range
All communication equipment used in Egypt must be NTRA certified. Including: (1) Terminal equipment of various types of telephones; fax machines (sound connection devices); card/pay telephones; LPUs (line protection devices); various types of mass/private switches; GSM mobile stations and telephones. (2) Radio communication equipment: radio transmission/reception equipment; satellite communication equipment; cordless telephone; radar device. (3) All indoor/outdoor, limited/wireless IT communication equipment. What are the subjects that need to apply for NTRA certification?
Anyone, business or company that supplies telecommunications equipment in the Egyptian market for the first time. Including: any local manufacturer or its authorized body that manufactures or assembles communication products; any overseas principal; any institution registered locally on behalf of the interests of overseas principals. Standards adopted for NTRA certification
NTRA certification includes international certification certificates and certification marks including CE and FCC. That is, telecommunications equipment applying for NTRA certification must first meet the regulatory requirements of CE and FCC, pass relevant standard testing, obtain the certification certificate and add the corresponding mark. The standards used for NTRA certification of telecommunications equipment are shown in Table 1. Table 1 Standard and standard organizations adopted for NTRA type certification Telecom/Radio ETSI, ASA, FCC, ITU EMC/EMI CENELEC, IEC, ASA Safety/Health CENELEC, IEC, ASA, UL, FCC wireless terminal products NTRA certification
Wireless terminal products first consider their frequency bands and must comply with the radio spectrum division regulations of the Egyptian Telecommunications Authority. CE and FCC have different certifications for wireless terminal products. Products based on CE certification must comply with the relevant coordination standards of the R&TTE Directive on electrical safety, electromagnetic compatibility, radio frequency and personal safety, and obtain the EU Notification Agency (NB) review certificate or opinion letter. Common coordination standards include: the product name, model, software and hardware version, frequency band, power, compliance standards, inspection reports and technical document numbers, etc., which will be indicated in the audit certificate or opinion. The FCC mainly considers compliance with electromagnetic compatibility, radio frequency, and personal safety. Products based on FCC certification must comply with relevant provisions in chapters such as 47 CFR Part 2, Part 22, Part 24, etc., and apply for and obtain the audit certificate of the US Telecommunications Accreditation Agency (TCB). Telecom terminal products NTRA certification
For telecommunications terminal products connected to public telecommunications networks, CE certification mainly considers electrical safety, electromagnetic compatibility and performance, and needs to pass coordination standards such as EN 60950-1, EN 55022, EN 55024, as well as interface performance testing standards such as TBR 21, TBR 38. The certification model can be done by self-declaring the enterprise or obtaining an NB certification certificate. The FCC mainly considers electromagnetic compatibility, electrical safety and other aspects, and needs to comply with the relevant provisions of 47 CFR Part 68. Through tests such as TIA-968-A, the certification model can be carried out by the enterprise self-declaration or obtaining a TCB certification certificate. NTRA Type Certification Application
Submit application forms on the website of the National Telecommunications Administration (NTRA) in Egypt; issue an import/production license by NTRA; detailed original catalogue, technical information and equipment instructions that explain the system description; a test report on whether the equipment meets relevant standards in terms of telecommunications/radio, EMC, EMI, safety and health; a certificate of origin from the manufacturer; a fee for type certification; and two samples are required for terminal equipment for testing.
